New Brief started!!

This week was the final hand in date for the lighting brief. I was feeling pretty confident coming up to this as I felt my work was good and that I had enough to pass, which I did :)

On Friday I started the character modeling brief. I've created my 4 mood boards and I am leaning towards a post apocalyptic scene where my character is the survivor of a nuclear war and not much is left apart from some buildings and recently build shanty towns and the odd survivor but not all of them are friendly. So as you can see I am really getting into this and am looking forward to getting started properly.

Blog Update

Today I have been changing the lighting in my maya lounge to the desired lighting theme I chose for my lighting brief. The lighting scheme I went for was like in a cinema, floor spotlights and wall lighting. I chose this theme as I like the glow you get from the wall lights and with the floor spotlights i like the way they light the path in the cinemas. In my scene though I like how the spotlights light up the seating. So far I have added the new lighting into my lounge and it is looking pretty good. Also I have saved a few renders of the lighting as well.

lighting

This week I have been working on lighting. I have been creating a handful of mood boards on lighting such as general lighting, lighting fixtures and also a few case studies on specific types of lighting in certain environments. For my general lighting mood boards I took a look a look at lighting in areas like; on the road, in the cinema, sports halls etc. Also I had a mood board of just different light fixtures. For my case studies I chose rainforest/forest, sporting venues and stage lighting. I chose the rainforest and forest mood board as I like the way the light has to shine through the gaps in the leaves to light the area and you get good beams of light peering through. I chose the stage lighting, as it is important for concerts as it creates the mood and is often personalised towards the band playing. Also you get laser lighting that is very different as it shows the stream, which the light produces, and it stays the same diameter all the way unlike most lighting. I chose sports venues as they have direct lighting onto the area where the sport is being done and the crowd is fairly dark. Also with stadiums they use a lot of natural light to light the stadium during the day and flood lights to light the pitch/area at night, again the stands are not light.

Dining scene renders

Lounge Renders

Update

This week in 3ds max I added a few things into my dining scene like a vase with some sticks of bamboo in it, a shelf with candles, a picture frame and lamp on it, a mirror and some other lighting in the hall. All in all I would say I am just about, if not, finished the scene.

In maya I have fully rendered my lounge and have animated my camera moving around it as well after a bunch of problems where the cameras wouldn't appear and then when they did they would only move in one direction. But now I have sorted that the cameras are working.

Different rendering trials

Blog update

So far this week I have been adding cameras and the few final touches to my dining room scene in 3DS Max. Also I added a doorway for my camera to pan through when entering the scene.

This week I have got a lot done in Maya. I have finished my scene and am adding the final touches to it. From doing my airport scene I have started liking Maya a lot more because I  didn't  really like it before but now I really do and I feel it is showing in my work.

Week5?

This week in 3Ds Max i have almost finished my dining room environment. I have put in my lighting which i think has brought the scene to life as it makes everything look a lot more real. Also we learned how to add cameras and also have them follow a path and go through the room. I also added a fur rug to my room which i am really happy with because i figured out how to make it by myself and it looks really good.

In Maya I have got a much better grasp of the software compared to last week and I am producing my models for my airport lounge and am quite happy with it. I do still have a lot to do but I am going to be putting in a lot of hours this weekend and monday and tuesday so I should get everything done in time. Hopefully.

week 3

This week I have begun making my actual models for my table top environment. So far I have made and rendered a few glasses. i have also made a plate, some cutlery, table and fruit bowl but i haven't rendered them as I am having some problems making the material for them.

In Maya I have been modeling a helmet which, although it has been stressful and annoying at times, has been fun. I am just struggling with the mouth part but I think I'm just going to do some trial and error to get it right.

Week 2

This week we got to use 3DS Max in a bit greater detail after a quick recap of lathing and being taught to extrude. This was by using polygons. I really liked the polygons as it opens up a new window into making a lot more abstract shapes and models. I did however struggle to make the fins on the fish which we were making and will need a bit of help with that. Also on Thursday we were given a made up word and had to make a 3D clay model of it and when it came to painting it my one decided to fall apart.

On Friday we finished our model of a temple on Maya. Im not too sure how i feel about Maya yet as it seems more difficult to come to grips with as appose to 3DS Max but Im sure I will get the hand of it soon...hopefully.

Week 1

At the end of this week I have been given my first two briefs and have started my research on them too. So far I have done my mood boards for my dining table visualisation brief and have made one for my creating an environment brief too. On thursday I got my first proper use of 3DS max where I made a beer glass which i enjoyed doing. On Friday I got to use Maya for the first time as well were i made the base for the temple which I will be making so that I get the hand of using the software before going on to making my airport lounge environment.

Thursday 2nd September

Today i was introduced to the second part of my course. This is more the animation side of the course which uses Maya. Also we were given our brief where we have to create an environment. I have chosen an Airport Lounge as straight away i have an image of what i would like it to be like. Later we, as a group we made a mind map with the title "airport" and we wrote a list of things we associate with an airport including lighting, colours and objects.
